If you’ve noticed the burgundy posters up on the lampposts all over our Southern Suburbs there are some thought-provoking messages on them, such as “Plumber saves 3 lives in only half an hour” and others to that effect. It took me a while to realize it was all in honour of the “Blood Donor Month” being held at the Blue Route Mall, Tokai. World Blood Donor Day on 14th June. Visit the Blood Donation Centre at the Edgars court and find out your blood group. This special month and day aims to raise awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products, as well as thank all the voluntary, unpaid blood donors for their life-saving gift.
A short questionnaire puts you into the blood donor seat and the feeling after you’ve “given” is really amazing – such a simple thing to save so many lives.
