The Tokai Tree Trail Project

The Tokai Tree Trail project has now been launched.  We are excited to share that the Tokai Tree Trail project has not only been enthiusiastically received and launched we have already responded by adding a second area, in Newlands

Aimed at enhancing our local natural heritage, Tokai Tree Trail is also aims to be a valuable resource for the entire community.

Our vision was funded by a substantial grant by Chas Everitt Cape Town South as the foundation or lead sponsor. This has covered the costs of the webApp development TreeTrail.org

Within the beautiful Tokai area, the TTT as we call it is aimed at fostering a deeper connection with nature, promoting environmental education, and providing accessible recreational opportunities for everyone.

The Tokai area, including the historic Tokai Arboretum, is home to a rich variety of trees, some over a hundred years old, representing a diverse collection from around the world. Projects in this area have previously focused on conservation, restoration, and community engagement through activities like alien tree clearing and guided walks.

This new project aims to build upon these foundations, creating well-defined and accessible ‘urban trails’ that highlights the unique arboreal wonders of our Tokai environment. We are seeking your valued input and expressions of interest to help shape the future of the Tokai Tree Trail.

Your local knowledge, ideas, and enthusiasm are a crucial aspect to making this project a success that truly reflects the needs and desires of the community. We want to understand what you would like to see, how you might benefit, and how you would like to be involved in this exciting community venture. We have now launched the Tree Trail but it’s never too late to add your input.

● Suggestions for trail points of interest.

● Ideas for educational signage or interactive elements.

● Volunteer opportunities for special event trail guides.

● Thoughts on community events or activities related to the trail.

A general letter of intent was sent to every house and a public meeting was held at Tokai Library to launch the project and to discuss the Tokai Tree Trail Project in more detail.  Ideas were presented and given and further feedback heard. (See above image)

The Tree Trail has now been launched and the digital planting of the trees will now start (mid October). This page is the info page about the Tree Trail.  Tokai.co.za/treetrail
